George D. Greenia is Professor Emeritus at William & Mary (Virginia, USA) and founder of its Institute for Pilgrimage Studies. Former editor of La corĂ³nica, a research journal of medieval Spanish language, literature and cultural studies, he was named Distinguished Editor of 2007 by the Council of Editors of Learned Journals. An internationally recognized authority on medieval and modern pilgrimage, he has biked and walked over 4000 miles along the pilgrimage trails to Santiago de Compostela and elsewhere. For his work researching and promoting Spanish culture he was knighted by order of King Juan Carlos I, and bestowed the Cross of the Order of Isabel the Catholic.
